A little about me
Hi! I am Amilia and I’m a Greek American graphic artist and illustrator, wife and mother of a sweet little boy. I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, USA. Since then I pursued a career as a graphic designer both in the USA and in Athens, Greece where I moved permanently in 2003.
Nearly four years ago, I decided to devote my self to motherhood. In that time aside from being emerged in my wonderful and fulfilling new role, I discovered the world of surface pattern design as a way to fill my creative cravings. Creativity and art has always been a driving force of my happiness. So, when I discovered this new form, through surface design, I was hooked. Drawing inspiration from my surroundings whether it was nature, the every day, or Greek culture I began to create repeat patterns intended to showcase all that beauty and inspiration on every day products, I then began offering on POD platforms.
Now that my little one is a bit older and motherhood is evolving, I feel I can dive deeper in this area of design that I have only been dabbling in until now. My goal is to work on collaborations, offer my designs in physical stores on products, and get my patterns licensed.
When I’m not immersed in the creative zone of drawing and designing, I love playing with my son, crafting, drawing and seeing creativity through his eyes. I also like taking walks in nature, traveling, or discovering new inspiration in the city with my husband and little one. I enjoy celebrating traditions and making the most of them, whether they are from my American or my Greek side. Trying to make each day a little bit special by preparing a nice meal, coming up with a fun new activity, or just appreciating the little things is always something I strive for.
Of course, I would be remiss not to mention my summers spent on my “home island” of Naxos. It is here that I draw most of my inspiration; whether it be from this Cycladic island’s stunning nature, the memories of my childhood or it’s culture from ancient to modern day.
